Gosh it's been awhile! Technology has NOT been in my favor this last month. Hopefully, I can get things figured out, and SOON with all of the upcoming holiday fun.
Now, where to begin to catch everyone up!?
Let's start with the end of October...
We did a full investigation of a pumpkin inside and out.
We began with the outside by measuring how big out pumpkin was.
First, how tall is our pumpkin?
We used cubes to measure the height of the pumpkin, and we learned that it was 13 cubes tall.
Then we were posed with a challenging question...How big around is the pumpkin?
How can we possibly measure around a pumpkin with a flat ruler!?
First idea was to place cubes around the pumpkin, and count them just as we did with the height.
We decided that was a great idea, but not super accurate.
Finally, Winters said to use a string and measure that...yessir that worked perfectly!!
Our next big question about pumpkins was...Do they float?
They are awfully big and heavy to be able to float in water!
We began with a vote, will it or will it not float?
Before the voting began, we had to experiment with some other objects to see what it is that makes something float.
We learned what it meant for something to be hollow. We learned that the objects with air in the middle stayed floating at the top, while the solid objects sank to the bottom.
Now it was time for the vote:
As a class, we voted that our pumpkin will float.
Ok, time to try it out...
we started with the little pumpkin, and it stayed at the top!
Next on to the big daddy, and look! We were right, pumpkins float!
Then it was time to investigate the inside to see the hollow middle of our pumpkin.
We learned that the inside of the pumpkin can provide many types of foods.
One yummy option is a homemade pumpkin pie!
Boy was it yummy!!
Finally, to end our week we did a few ghost experiments.
The experiment that actually worked was making our ghost balloon grow without blowing it up!
We smelled the vinegar before getting started to see what it was.
Then put some baking soda in the balloon and placed it on top of our bottle of vinegar...
check it out!
A big shout out to the star of the week that week,
Emma Grace!
She brought such a yummy and unique snack that we all loved!
Eclairs and Easy Cheese...Yumm yumm!
