With this wonderful season comes many beautiful changes and fun holidays.
Last week we celebrated the new season...Fall!
Our Fall bulletin board is a special one because each leaf has something that the students are thankful for, and boy do we have a lot to be thankful for!
As we talk about the season, one of the big changes we discuss is the change in the trees.
We know that the leaves change colors before falling to the ground, leaving the trees bare for the winter.
To explore this change everyone gathered a collection of leaves and brought it in to share with the class. We then sorted out the leaves in the collections by color.
Look at all of the beautiful colors!
Once all of the leaves were sorted, we graphed our findings.
This was a great way to see which color we found the most and least of.
We couldn't let these beautiful leaves go to waste, so we made some Falliday wreaths to hang in the classroom.
Next we learned how and why the leaves change color.
It has to do with the amount of water and sun the leaves are getting, and they do not change color all at once. The color has to spread.
To test this out we cut leaves out of coffee filters and drew a circle in the middle using a washable marker.
Next we folded the leaves into fourths and dipped the white tip into the water.
The water started at the very tip and spread throughout the entire leaf!
We made our leaves change colors just like Fall trees!
Now, get outside and enjoy this nice weather and beautiful colors!
