Rainbow Writing

Now that we've started our letter of the week curriculum, with the letter A, it's time to start Rainbow Writing!!  In our class, one of the ways that we practice learning how to write the letters of the alphabet is by "Rainbow Writing".
Rainbow writing is not only a fun and colorful way write letters, but it helps with our fine motor skills, direction following skills, and spelling skills!

We start by singing our rainbow song.  This song teaches us the order that the colors go in a rainbow.

Then we figure out what is the first color in a rainbow, find the correct crayon, and hold it in the air until everyone has it.
In the future we will be learning individual color songs that teach the spelling of each color in the rainbow, and we will sing with our crayons in the air.
(When the crayons are in the air, no one is working ahead.  This is my way of making sure everyone is paying attention)
I then demonstrate how to correctly write each letter by tracing one on the board.
The students then trace their own letters.

We do each of these steps for every color in the rainbow.  Once we are through purple, the students have beautiful rainbow letters, and have had practiced writing both the lowercase and uppercase letters 6 times.

To conclude our A week we made yummy Apple nachos!!

 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
