When I Grow Up

Nn Nest
We've made it to the letter N, so our key word this week was Nest.
We played a fun game where we had to find our partner with the top or bottom of the egg that rhymed with the word on our half.

Once an egg was made whole with a rhyming pair, it was placed in the Rhyming Nest.
We did a great job!
Then we each made a nest of our own with little watercolor chicks.

The big theme for this week was "People in my Neighborhood".
We learned that almost all of the people in our neighborhoods have jobs that make them  "Community Helpers".

To help us learn about different types of Community Helpers we had a Mystery Reader come each day to tell us about what he or she does at work, what they had to do to get there, and how it helps our community.

On Tuesday, Mr. Husser came and talked to us about being a Chef!
He is the chef at Hefer International.
On Wednesday Mr. Handloser, Joseph's dad, came and talked to the class about being a teacher.
He is a very different kind of teacher than the ones at Holy Souls, he teaches Latin to big boys at Catholic High School.

On Thursday we had Mrs. Claire, Nash and Vada's mom, came speak to us about being a Pharmacist.
She is a special pharmacist who gives medication to babies in the NICU at the hospital.
She also taught us great rules about how to be safe around medication.

Finally, we had Mr. Milton who works for the electric company.
He helps design electricity stations, so we got to watch a video about how they get those HUGE poles in the ground.  Did you know they use helicopters??
He also talked to us about being safe around electricity.
After hearing about all of these cool jobs, we learned that we can be anything we want to be!
Also, we don't have to have just one job.  We can do many things!
Here is what we want to be for now...

Big huge hugs, high fives, and thank yous to Mrs. Claire and Mr. Handloser for taking the time out of their busy work schedules to come speak with our class.
That was very special!!
