As we learned all about the letter M this week, the temperatures began to drop and chill us all to the bone!
To go along with the weather and theme of the week we read the book, "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. This is a great story of a young boy who goes out in the snow and drops one the mittens his grandmother made. While the mitten is lost a number of forest animals snuggle inside the mitten to stay warm. The boy then finds his stretched out mitten, and returns home without the worry of telling his grandmother his mitten is lost.
With this book we learned what fiction and nonfiction stories are, and we got to put many of our literacy skills to use.
We made our very own mittens, and gave our hands a workout by lacing the mittens together.
Then we listened very carefully to the author, Jan Brett, read us "The Mitten".
As she read the story we practiced sequencing by placing the animals in our mittens as they crawled into the one in the book.
We had to pay very close attention to make sure we went in the right order, and the students did a great job!
Finally, our Star, Alex, was very generous and shared Apple Jacks, apple juice, and apple sauce with us for his "A" snack!
He was such a wonderful Star, thanks Alex!!
