Time for an investigation!
Today we continued on our pumpkin investigation. Yesterday we learned how pumpkins grow, then today we explored the outside of a pumpkin, then the icky inside.
Starting with the outside, we came up with a great list of describing words. Then we guessed the number of ridges and counted to see if we were right.
Next we measured using pumpkin colored linking cubes.
Then on to the fun part...Does a pumpkin float?
Before we made it to our big ole pumpkin, we tried out a few other items.
James discovered that a counting bug sinks.
Ava learned that a spoon sinks.
Sawyer found out that a toy dinosaur floats.
Then it was on to different types of pumpkins, a toy one floats,
and a small real one floats.
SO...time to vote...will our pumpkin float!?
LOOK!! It does float!
We learned that things that float are hollow on the inside, and once we explored the inside of our pumpkin we learned that it's hollow.
When we moved on to investigate the inside we pulled out his guts.
eeeeewwwwwww
Some of the kids really went for it.
and some were not so sure about this goopy interior.
Finally we had another vote,
and voila!
Here's our spooky pumpkin friend.
Hello sweet Star Sawyer!!
