This morning we began our unit, "What do Families Need?".
We learned that one of the most important things we need is our home.
After we learned that a home provides protection, we looked at different types of homes all over the world. Then it was time to talk about our own home!
Then this afternoon we had the first of five fun visits from Mrs. Susan.
Mrs. Susan works at the Museum of Discovery, and will be bringing animals to visit our class once a month.
Today she taught us all about vertebrates and invertebrates. We learned that insects, bugs, and many sea creatures are invertebrates. We also learned that all of the very large invertebrates live in the water because they have no bones to support their growth, but the small ones can live and crawl on land. Another fun word we learned is the exoskeleton. Did you know that all animals with their bones are on the outside must shed them to grow...even spiders! Who knew!?
To go along with this great lesson, Mrs. Susan brought a fuzzy wuzzy....
Giant Tarantula!! AHHHH
I was very impressed at how brave the kids were! No one went running across the room...well no students at least;).
We can't wait for our next visit!
