Plump Pumpkin

Time for an investigation!
Today we continued on our pumpkin investigation.  Yesterday we learned how pumpkins grow, then today we explored the outside of a pumpkin, then the icky inside.
Starting with the outside, we came up with a great list of describing words.  Then we guessed the number of ridges and counted to see if we were right.
Next we measured using pumpkin colored linking cubes.
Then on to the fun part...Does a pumpkin float?
Before we made it to our big ole pumpkin, we tried out a few other items.
James discovered that a counting bug sinks.
Ava learned that a spoon sinks.
Sawyer found out that a toy dinosaur floats.
Then it was on to different types of pumpkins, a toy one floats,
and a small real one floats.
SO...time to vote...will our pumpkin float!?

 LOOK!! It does float!
We learned that things that float are hollow on the inside, and once we explored the inside of our pumpkin we learned that it's hollow.
When we moved on to investigate the inside we pulled out his guts.
eeeeewwwwwww
Some of the kids really went for it.

and some were not so sure about this goopy interior.

 Finally we had another vote,
 and voila!
Here's our spooky pumpkin friend.
 Hello sweet Star Sawyer!!

Spooky Spiders

While I was out the class learned all about the 8 legged creepy crawly...
spider!!
They learned the parts of spider, where he lives, how he eats, and they polled who was scared of them and who was not.  We reviewed all of this information today, then made some adorable spider hats.
Look out, they are all crawling to a house near you!!

Also a big thank you to this sweet Star of the Week, Sawyer, for bringing the class Skittles for his Star snack.

G Week Catch Up

As this week went on, and we continued to learn about the letter G we read three wonderful books.  All three books we read had titles that began with G!

After having read all three books we reviewed the each story then had a vote on which one was our class favorite.
Everyone made a vote using a cube who's color corresponded to the cover of each story.

We then put the cubes together to create a bar Graph.

 Which bar is the highest!?
Grumpy Gloria and Goodnight Goon tied!
Both timeless classics:).
Then today we had our next great G adventure making green glittery goblin goo.
Mix a little Borax,

 With a smidge of water,

 add a splash of glue,

and finally some green food coloring.
Yep, the look on my face says it all...
Green Glittery Goblin Goo is GROSS!
eeeeeewwwwwwwww
I must also share the product of our first guided drawing.
How cute are our bats!?

Finally, I must share the Star board of Miss Finley as her reign comes to an end.
 AND...Drumroll Please......
WE WON THE SPIRIT STICK
let me say it again incase you don't believe me,
PREK WON THE SPIRIT STICK!!
For those of you who don't know, the cheerleaders pick the grade that yells the spirit cheer the loudest at each pep rally.  All I know is my sweet little people have not beat out the big people since I've been at Holy Souls.  SO...this is a big deal!!!
