When I grow up...

This week we are learning all about "the people in our neighborhood". We started with this theme yesterday by talking about how what people wear can tell us what they do for a living. Each student came up and drew a card that had an object, an article of clothing, or a vehicle on it, and they told the class the profession that it went with.

Chef hat

Handcuffs for cops

Stethoscope for nurses, doctors and EMTs

Hard hat for construction workers

Fire truck

Artist's palette

Officer badge

Store clerk register

Police car

Whistle for coaches, PE teachers, or teachers

Toothbrush for the dentist

We then looked at pictures of workers and labeled the things they wear that allow us to know what they do.

Then today, we got to talk about the job we want to have when we grow up!
This will be fun for everyone to look back on and see if your child really knew what he/she wanted to be at age 4/5. I actually did want to be a teacher at that age, I certainly went a round about way of getting there, but here I am living my dream!

The students also were asked why they want to be what they said...here are their great answers.

Audrey wants to be a cheerleader because she wants to dance at football games.
Emma wants to be a teacher because she wants to teach.
Grant wants to be a dancer because he wants to be on stage.
Hannah wants to be a gymnastics coach so she can tell people what to do.
Harrison wants to be an Air Force pilot because they are super secret.
Jacob wants to be a dad so he can tell kids what to do.
Julia wants to be an artist because she can color and paint very well.
Lexie wants to be a cowgirl so she can ride horses.
Lindley wants to be a gymnast because she can do gymnastics.
Owain wants to be a hunter so he can shoot deer.
Rachael wants to be a teacher so she can write on the chalkboard.
Reed wants to be a policeman so he can tell people to stop.
Riley wants to be a teacher so she can pick the center for people to go to.
Sophia wants to be a ballerina so she can stand on her toes.
Tripp wants to be a detective so he can solve mysteries.
Vivian wants to be a teacher so she can write notes.
Will wants to be an officer because he wants to take robbers to jail.
Winn wants to be a hunter so he can shoot bears.

Then we journaled about it...

I know I show journals a lot, but I'm just so proud of the writing your kids can do!!

And last but certainly not least, I must introduce our adorable Star of the Week Will!

Today we got to enjoy his yummy W snack...Nilla Wafers mmmmm thank you Will!
