Will it Float?!

Today we began doing some work to answer the questions we wrote on our KWL chart about pumpkins.

We first observed and measured to learn more about the outside of a pumpkin, and to find out if all pumpkins are the same size.



We guessed then counted the lines.



We then measured to see how wide and tall our pumpkins are.


Guess what?! Both pumpkins are the same height when measured from floor to stem. However, they are different widths.

We then decided to see whether or not pumpkins float.

We started by testing other objects.
A toy dinosaur...floats!


A plastic apple...floats!


A hard boiled egg...sinks!


A yellow counting bear...floats! (The other colors are still in question ha)



A spoon...sinks!






Now for the real deal...the pumpkin. We first had to vote. We had 10 for sink


And 7 for float





Well....


IT FLOATS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now ya know.

Also today, our Star Julia brought a yummy J snack. Juice, Jello, and Jellybeans! Mmmmmmm. Thank you Julia!
