Families Families

We have had so much fun talking about our families, and introducing our family members to the class.
Each student got the opportunity to present a picture of their family to their classmates.  Each member was introduced by name and roll then we counted to see how many people made up the family.

After all families were introduced, the framed photos were hung on the wall in a gallery where they will remain for the rest of the year.
After introducing our families, each student drew his/her family members.  While drawing each person we discussed the characteristics and the correct colors to use to create each person.

Zoom in to see these adorable families!
After learning discussing our families, we talked about what all families need.
We learned the difference between needs and wants, and decided that one of the most needed things in our lives is a home.
All homes are different sizes, shapes, materials, and colors.
Here are the kids drawing their own home and telling why their home keeps them safe and comforted.

Of course you can't talk about what homes are made of without incorporating the classic tale of "The Three Little Pigs".
We had a lot of fun with this story, and once we had read it a few times we got the chance to put the pigs' building materials to the test....the test being The Big Bad Wolf!

One group was given straws and playdough to create their houses.
Another was given legos to act as bricks.
And the third was given Popsicle sticks and marshmallows.
The groups recorded which building material they used and they guessed whether their house would stand or fall.
Finally, in cam some pretty scary Big Bad Wolves!

They Huffed and Puffed and...

Did not blow any houses down hahaha...
I guess we have some pretty good builders in the class!! :)

I can't end without catching you up on our wonderful Stars of the last two Weeks.

First was sweet Drew and he shared some delicious Donuts.
Then Miss Lily was the star and she brought yummy Lemon Oreos!

They were both bright shining stars!
