We are continuing on our Living Things unit by learning all about animals.
We know that animals are living things because they all move, grow and change, reproduce, and eat.
We started by discussing the different way animals move, and what body parts they use to do so.
Each student picked an animal from the bucket to present to the class.
Then they sorted them by whether they move on land, in the water, or in the sky.
After the group sort, each student sorted a group of animals on their own.
Next we talked about animal babies. Most animals look like the same type of animal as their mom and dad when they are born, but most baby animals have a different name.
The students were given a card with an adult or baby animal on it, and had to go around making the noise that the animal on the card makes. Once they found classmate making the same sound, they made a parent/baby match!
Bear and Cub
Goat and Kid
Dog and Puppy
Cat and Kitten
Chicken and Chick
Duck and Duckling
Horse and Colt
Time to move like an animal!
Finally, we learned about life cycles and that that there are some very special animals that are born totally different than their parents.
Frogs start as tadpoles:
Butterflies start as caterpillars:
We made a bracelet to remind us of the butterfly life cycle.
Miss Jane had a big week!
She turned 5 and lost her first tooth...congratulations!
