We are Health Stars!
After learning how to stay safe last week, we turned to learning how to keep our bodies healthy.
We discussed what it means to BE healthy, and one way is by eating healthy.
Did you know that we can "eat the rainbow"!?
Having a colorful plate each meal means it is very healthy.
We then explored the different food groups, and what foods are included in them.
Everyone got to sort one food into the correct basket:
Dairy, Grain, Protein, Vegetable, or Fruit.
A great way to learn how much of each food group we should eat is by studying "My Plate".
The website www.choosemyplate.gov has some amazing resources to teach how to eat healthily.
We made "My Plates" by cutting foods out of magazines and placing them under the food group they belong in on a plate.
Liza found some berries for her fruit.
Sawyer found a salad for his vegetable.
Nash found shrimp for his protein.
Joseph found some rice for his grain.
Then what a better way to eat healthy than to eat veggies straight from a garden...OUR garden!
We got to plant a PreK garden in a school plot.
Mr. Baker cam and helped us prepare the plot by pulling the weeds, and hoeing and raking the dirt. Then he helped each student plant either a broccoli or cauliflower plant.
We will continue to take care of our garden as it grows!
September came to a close, so it was time to do our last apple treat.
We made delicious apple krispie treats!
Let's wrap up this fun week by celebrating the letter C with
Cowboy Day!!
YEE HAW!!!
Thank you sweet Lulu for being an AMAZING star of the week!!
