Spring Break 2015

Check out all the fun my Stars had over the break!

Sawyer caught himself a fish!
Miss Lynn had a sleepover, and...
 lost her first tooth!
Madison became a pro skiier in Breckenridge!
James went on an adventure in Taos, New Mexico.
I can't blame him for skipping out on his last day of ski school to check out the tepees...how cool!
I had a few friends check out the new MidAmerica Science Museum in Hot Springs.

Look at Alex and his sister, former Star Hannah, in the skywalk.
 Haha too much fun!
Mr. Charlie checked out the real hot springs!
Allie was a beach bum in Florida.
 Awesome sand castle sister!
Ava went on a mommy daughter camping trip,
and hiked Pinnacle Mountain.
What an adventure!!
Rhys met some really neat characters on his vacation.
Look who it is!
 How sweet is this!?

Paul conquered his fears on a ropes course!

Then relaxed beach side.

I went to enjoy more snow in CO :).

It looks like everyone really enjoyed their break, I know I did!
Now it's time to buckle down and finish out the year strong.

Happy Spring!

Down on the Farm

As we gear up for Spring Break we have been talking about the different types of places we can visit in the world around us, both near and far.

Today we talked about visiting a farm, and all of the different things we would see.
We learned about the different animals, and how they are helpful to us.
One of these helpful animals is the cow!  We watched a great video on how cows we get milk from cows to our refrigerators.

You know we can't learn about an adorable animal without making one!
Check out our barnyard friends.

Also this week we have been learning all about the letter V.
With each letter we learn we do a journal page that has a picture of something that starts with the current letter, and then we have to try and sound the word out to write it ourselves.

This week I must show off some of the amazing writers I had!!!
(This is very impressive for this age, just FYI)

Silly snapshot...Allie was cooking up a storm in Housekeeping center!

Baby Fever

This is more of a personal post, which I don't normally do.  However, I have to include my current babies in the new life of my baby that is coming oh so soon!

Monday was gender day in the Selig household, so I had the class vote to see what they thought I am having.
 The Stars vote...Girl!
and....
 They were right!!

Coming soon...
I think I've given the kiddos baby fever, and it's pretty cute.

Ava made a fruit baby at math center today!

Hungry Bugs

Our last and one of the most fun lessons we get to do in our insect unit is
"How do insects eat?".
We learned about the three main ways that insects eat, the the type of mouths they have.

We began by talking about insects that have "straw mouths".  These insects have mouths that act like straws, and they eat nectar or sweet juices.
Butterflies are great examples of "straw mouths".

Let's try it out....
]

Next we learned about "sponge mouths" like flies.  These insects' mouths soak up anything they land on; therefore, their food must be moist.

Meet my little sponge mouths.

Finally, look out for my "plier mouths"!
These insects are out to chomp their food with large mandibles that look and act like a pair of pliers.

For our afternoon snack we ate like butterflies with straw mouths.
Yummy nectar!

Gone Buggy

We're having a fun week learning all about insects!

Yesterday we learned the characteristics of insects, and sang a fun song to help us remember them.  Make sure to ask your kiddos to sing it for you! (hint: it's to the tune of "Head Shoulders Knees and Toes")

Today we read a great story boy Eric Carle, "The Grouchy Ladybug".
Then we became the Grouch himself.

Now, I can't turn my sweet babies into grouchy bugs without making them what they truly are...
Lovebugs!

A big shout out to table #4 for having the most warm fuzzies in their jar this week!
As a reward they got to ride tricycles during morning recess.
