Snip Snip!

As we get more into the groove of things, we are beginning to learn and practice some new skills. This week, we broke out the big guns...The Scissors! I know that the thought of a 4 year old with scissors seems terrifying to most (myself included), but we all must face or fears at some point right?! So we did it...we practiced three fingers in the big hole, thumb in the small, three fingers toward the table, big slow alligator chomps, and using our other hand to guide...sounds easy! Ha. To this age, especially to most sweet boys, this is quite the challenge. It is, however, a very important skill, and is a great exercise in fine motor development.

Once we demolished the practiced sheets and made the room look like a hamster den, we graduated to circles (or caterpillar body parts, depending on how ya think)!

Although ill admit I had my concerns when embarking on this project, your kids pleasantly surprised me! Our caterpillars are adorable, and all have a personality completely of their own.

Now that you see that your child is capable, and no one came home with a fresh back to school haircut, I recommend you take a deep breath, and let your child show off their skills at home:).

Let ,e leave you this weekend with a look into our daily lives as PreK teachers:

We laugh a lot!

Reading Buddies

We had some very fun visitors this week in PreK. We got to meet our 4A reading buddies! It's always nice to have a friend on campus, especially a much older and wiser ;) one, so each month the our 4th grade buddies will come and read to us before nap. We got to meet our buddy from 4AM this week, and will meet our buddy from 4B in 2 weeks.

Stella and Addison were so excited to have their sister and brother as their buddy!

We look forward to meeting our next bunch of buddies soon!

My Special Letter

In learning more about ourselves and our friends, this week we began exploring our names. We did many fun exercises to learn our new friends's names, and we learned that our names are made up of different letters that create the different sounds we hear. We all discovered that we each have a very special letter, the one that starts our name! Here are a few of the activities we did to explore our special letter.
First we got to break out the water colors!

And paint away.

We have some great artists in PreK A!
(And some very particular block cleaner uppers ha)

Then, with much thanks to all of you, the stars each decorated their very own special letter that they presented to the class. They all turned out so great!

Now the letters have a special new home in our classroom, where they will remain in all their glory for the remainder of the year!

This was our first full week in PreK, and we had so much fun!
This week we learned "All About Me", and what makes us special.
We started by talking about our eye color, then we moved on to our hair.

We then discussed how we grow, our height, and different ways to measure it.
We can measure with string.  We got to look at a string the length we were when we were born, then we cut a string the height we are now.
Look how much we've grown!

Then we measured ourselves in stars!

The last way we learned to measure ourselves was with a ruler.

Now we can watch ourselves grow this year in PreK.
The Stars tallest to shortest!

Also this week, we got to have our first PE. It was so much fun going down to the field to play a good old fashioned round of Duck Duck Goose!
Run Corinne!

Some of us got a bit off track ha!

Finally, we ended our week with a wonderful prayer service led by Mrs. Straessle.  We learned all about how to treat our bodies like a temple.

Happy weekend to all of my sweet Stars!
