My Name is Special!

This week we are focusing on our names, and the Special letter they begin with.
On day one it was important for everyone to know what their Special Letter was.
Each student came up to the board, found his/her special letter, and completed their name.

Then we gave our hands a workout when we used the paint dotters to dot our names.

Next, it was time to sort!
We sorted the class by the letter we start with.

We have 1 V - Vada
3 Ws - Wyatt, Winters and Waverly
3 Ls - Liza, Lulu and Luke
 2 S's - Savannah and Sawyer
 1 N - Nash
2 As - Addi and Avey
3 Js - Jonathan, Joseph, and Jane
 1 H - Heston
 1 E - Emma
Look...Waverly bit a W into her sandwich at lunch!
Finally, we drew a picture of something that starts with our special letter.

These Stars are Special

We had a wonderful week discussing how very special all my Stars are in so many ways.  Each one of them is unique and can bring something new to the table.  Here are a few of the things we learned make us so special.

We started with our names.  All of our names is different, an they are all made up of a different number of letters.  Some names are long and some are short!

Next we talked about our eyes.  Everyone's eyes are a different shape, size and color.  Each kid had a chance to find their wwn special eyes.  Then we graphed the colors of eyes in our class on a pie chart.

Next up, hair.  All hair differs in color, length, and texture.  Again we charted the hair color of our classmates on a pie chart.  Then we made some cute little heads that look like us!

Then it was time to discuss our gender, and how it makes us special.  We added bows and sorted the heads we made.  We also did a lesson where we sorted objects that boys, girls, or both would like.  This taught us that we are more alike than we think because we like to play with some of they same toys, wear some of the same things, and eat some of the same foods.

For our math lesson we learned about measurement by seeing how we've grown.  The way we grow and change is very special!

We now know a few different tools that we can use to measure...
Rulers

 Strings...
(look how much Emma has grown!  The blue string is how long she was when she is born, and the pink is now!)
 and cubes!

After we measured our hands, we explored the unique lines and fingerprints we have on them.

Finally, we got to share something that we can do that makes us feel special...
As we learned all about how special we are, we took time to talk all about the one who made us so special...God!  In Religion we learned what a rosary is, and got to make one as a bracelet to bring home!

What a wonderful week it was!!
