We are Scientists!

We learned what it means to investigate, and that you can truly investigate anything using your senses.
If we were Scientists, here are the subjects we would study:
Then we had a special visitor, Mrs. Jill, come to our class to do some fun experiments with us.  Mrs. Jill is a high school science teacher, and Olive's mom.
We really put our investigation skills to work!

We learned about the gas bubbles in Coke, and if you put nerd candy in the Coke, the gas will blow up a balloon!
She taught us to use our different senses to investigate.  We used touch to describe what we felt in the bag.
We made a crazy goo out of water and corn starch that was solid if you hit it hard, and a liquid if you slowly touched it.
We talked about density...whoa big word!
Will it float?
We got to use our sense of hearing to listen to each others' hearts using a homemade stethoscope.

 Now was crazy...eggs in vinegar.
The vinegar made the shell go away and we could see what is inside without breaking the egg!

Mrs. Jill made us some more cool goo.
We got to investigate how clouds work by making it rain in a jar.
 We helped make wave bottles.
Then Mrs. Jill's husband, Mr. Brad, came and made goo and a volcano!

William was a wonderful Star of the Week!
The watermelon was such a treat, and summer tease.
Finally, a big Happy Birthday to Sullivan!!!
Thank you for the yummy cookies.

Hoppy Easter!

The kids LOVED doing the Resurrection Eggs throughout Lent to help learn the Easter story.
We also had fun having a class Easter Egg Hunt.
Before we had the hunt, the kiddos got to dye eggs the old fashioned way.
Then we took a trek down to the park where the Easter Bunny had made a stop.
Look what we found!!

Everyone had a great time hunting eggs, playing on the playground, and enjoying a yummy picnic.

Hoppy Easter to my little Wabbits!

Shining Stars

Mr. Cam had a great week shining as our class Star.
Cam loves to sound out words.  Look, he figured out how to spell Selig correctly...WOW!!
Thank you for the delicious Cookies for Cam. MMM

Then sweet Edie had a blast wearing the special crown and being the class helper.
For her Star snack she brought Eggos!
Thanks Edie!
Finally, our friend Jake had his turn as the class leader last week.

The class enjoyed his Jolly Ranchers all week!

Get excited, there are many more Stars to highlight!

Insects are Living Things

We had so much fun learning all about insects.  We sang a fun song to help us remember all of the body parts that insects have.
We then did a fun class exploration of the way different insects eat.
There are three different types of insect mouths that we investigated.
After we learned the different ways of eating, we decided to pretend to be insects.

Each student got a picture of an insect out of the bag, then pretended to eat like that insect would.
Here are the beetles that have "plier mouths".
They eat solids and use their plier-like mouth to crunch.

Here are the flies that have "sponge mouths".
These insects either eat liquids, or they spit on solids to make them juicy.  Then they use their sponge-like mouth to soak the food up.

Finally, here are the butterflies that have "straw mouths".
These insects use their straw-like mouth to suck up yummy sweat liquids.

That afternoon the whole class woke up as beautiful butterflies, and had a delicious nectar snack using their "straw mouth".

Also, we read the Eric Carle book, The Grouchy Ladybug, and made ourselves into grouchy (and love) bugs.

Once we learned all of the criteria to be an insect we could complete this chart...
Thank you for being an amazing Star of the Week sweet Elena!

And thank you for the delicious elephant ears and eclairs.
