Oh what spooky fun we had in the month of October!
All month long we used pumpkins to learn new skills and concepts.
In Math we learned the number 5, so we made a Five Little Pumpkins poem with illustrations.
Now that we know how to write the number we had to fill in the blanks in the poem with the fives.
Then we made our illustration by counting out 5 sticks for the gate, and drawing 5 pumpkins on the gate.
Our next pumpkin activity was to create our very own pumpkin patch. Because we can't actually go to the real pumpkin patch, we made one in our room!
Meet our class pumpkins:
Finally it was time to investigate the actual thing.
We began by making a KWL chart to find out what we already know and what we wanted to learn about pumpkins:
We then inspected the outside of the pumpkin to see what we could find out about the way it looked.
We used describing words for our pumpkin's appearance, we counted how many lines are on it, and we measured the height using cubes and a ruler.
Then we had to find out about the inside.
EEEWWWW
We also had to find out if pumpkins float...
They're so big and heavy that there's no way they will float!!
We took a class vote:
Then tried out a few objects to see what type of thing floats.
Check it out...pumpkins float!!!
We were right!
Finally, it was time to get our pumpkin ready for Halloween!
and tada!
