Our next step in learning about living things was to learn all about life cycles.
We learned that the word cycle tells us that something goes around and around with no stopping point. We now know that all cycles begin with birth, then there is growth into adulthood, and finally death.
We then got to learn about two certain animals who begin their cycle as completely different animals than they end up being.
We started with the life cycle of the frog.
This animal begins it's life in an egg then as a tadpole swimming through the water. It then goes through some major changes to grow into a frog.
Look at the fun frog books we made!
Next we learned the butterfly life cycle. Did you know they aren't born butterflies!?
From an egg comes a wiggly hungry caterpillar. Once the caterpillar has grown and plumped up, he wraps himself into a chrysalis until coming out as a butterfly.
We colored a worksheet to show us the cycle.
Then we made bracelets to remind us of the different stages in the butterfly life cycle.
First a white bead to represent the egg that is laid on a leaf.
Then we added one red and three green beads to look like the caterpillar that hatches from the egg.
Next we put a brown bead for the chrysalis.
Finally we picked a bead of any color to represent the beautiful colorful butterfly that comes out of the chrysalis!
Ta da!
