Love is in the Air!

Happy Valentines Day from PreK A!

The kiddos had so much fun showing off the boxes they decorated.
Everyone did such a great job!

Then it was time to get them stuffed with love from one another.

I hope everyone's holiday was filled with laughter and love!

The Circle of Life

Our next step in learning about living things was to learn all about life cycles.
We learned that the word cycle tells us that something goes around and around with no stopping point.  We now know that all cycles begin with birth, then there is growth into adulthood, and finally death.

We then got to learn about two certain animals who begin their cycle as completely different animals than they end up being.

We started with the life cycle of  the frog.
This animal begins it's life in an egg then as a tadpole swimming through the water.  It then goes through some major changes to grow into a frog.

Look at the fun frog books we made!

Next we learned the butterfly life cycle.  Did you know they aren't born butterflies!?
From an egg comes a wiggly hungry caterpillar.  Once the caterpillar has grown and plumped up, he wraps himself into a chrysalis until coming out as a butterfly.

We colored a worksheet to show us the cycle.

Then we made bracelets to remind us of the different stages in the butterfly life cycle.
First a white bead to represent the egg that is laid on a leaf.
Then we added one red and three green beads to look like the caterpillar that hatches from the egg.
Next we put a brown bead for the chrysalis.
Finally we picked a bead of any color to represent the beautiful colorful butterfly that comes out of the chrysalis!
Ta da!

Living Things

Last week we began learning about living things.  We now know that ALL living things must:
grow and change, eat, reproduce, and move.
Once we learned these facts and reviewed by doing a living/nonliving thing sort, it was time to put our new knowledge to use. If you've been wondering where some of your favorite magazines went, here you go.  We went through and cut out living and nonliving things to glue into our journals.

After we glued our pictures down we flipped the paper over and drew a living and nonliving thing.

Side note:  I have to say that us teachers found it quite amusing, that the student who brought a hunting magazine ended up with a living/dead(nonliving) thing sort haha.  I mean... they aren't living, so it was technically correct. Love it!

This week we have begun learning about one type of living thing...animals!
We started today by talking about animal babies.  We learned what different animals' babies are called, and played a matching game.

Moms on one side:
 Babies on the other:
Then we had to match up, and say the correct name of the baby animal.
Goat/kid
 Cat/kitten
 Hen/chick
(thanks to Madison for taking the pic:)
 Bear/cub
 Dog/puppy
 Pig/piglet
 Duck/Duckling
Then to end our day we had our very last visit from Mrs. Susan.  Today she brought an adorable, and very soft, rabbit.  We learned a bit about this rabbit, but she did an amazing lesson on mammals.  We learned what the biggest, tallest, fastest, and smallest mammals are.  We also always learn some really fun facts.  Like...did you know a rhino's horn is made of hair!?  What!?

We presented Mrs. Susan with a thank you book we made of all of our favorite animals she taught us about because we sure will miss our monthly visits!

Finally, I am so sorry I did not post this very important event last week, but better late than never.

Happy Birthday sweet Allie!!
Thank you so much for sharing your very favorite chocolate donuts with us.
Boy were they delish!
