Living Things

For the last few weeks we have been learning about different types of living things.  We started with humans and animals then moved to plants and insects.
Check out all of the discovery that has been going on in PreK!

In learning about plants we "hand" made a beautiful flower and labeled all of its' important parts.
First came the seed, then roots, and from the roots grew a stem.
Off of the stem came some leaves, and...
 a beautiful flower!
In order to grow, the flower must have sunshine.
Then we placed the part labels in the proper spots.

Then we planted some seeds of our own.
Here we're growing carrots and peas...fingers crossed!
These are our sprout houses where were hoping to start some lima bean sprouts.

Then we moved on to insects.
We learned what a bug has to have to be an insect: 3 body parts, 6 legs, antenna, and sometimes wings.
We sorted bugs by whether they are in insect or not.
We also got to learn about the neat life cycle of a butterfly!
Everyone came home with a neat bracelet to help as a reminder of the stages of the life cycle.

To round out our insect week we got some new friends.
We are excited to watch these caterpillars grow and change!
Here's how much they grew in 5 days!
It looks like at least one may be in his chrysalis by tomorrow.

Hippity Hoppity

Easter week was a fun week for PreK!
We tried out a new egg dying technique with shaving cream and food coloring.  The kids had a blast playing in it, and it was neat to see how all of the colors showed up on the eggs before wiping them clean.

Once wiped clean we noticed that the pink was quite the dominate color.

Then it was time for these little Wabbits to go on an egg hunt!
Thank you so much to all of the amazing parent volunteers, you know we could not do it without you.
The kids got to make cute bunny hats, decorate foam eggs, play bingo, and, of course, go on an egg hunt!

 This is one happy hunter!!
