Animals are Living Things

Then it was time to continue with our Living Things unit.

This week we talked all about Animals!
We began by discussing that all animals have babies, and some of the babies have different names than the grownup.  Like goats have kids, cows have calves, bears have cubs, etc.

We played a fun game where each student got a picture of a baby or grown animal, then had to make the noise that their animal makes to find their baby or grownup match.

We also discussed how animals move, and where they move.  Some move on land with legs, some move in the water with fins, and some fly through the air with wings.
Time to sort some animals:

Finally we learned that all living things go through life cycles.
We found out that butterflies and frogs have very unique life cycles because their life starts as a completely different animal than it ends up.

We made frogs and frog life cycle books,

 and butterfly life cycle bracelets.

Bella was our wonderful Star of the Week last week.
Thanks for being a great leader, and the bananas were a delicious B snack!

Celebrate Good Times

Whew, what a week!

This past week was one celebration after the other.
We started on Fat Tuesday with a Mardi Gras parade that was led by none other than...
US!
We got all decked out in our purple, green and gold to throw beads and candy to the big kids while the Catholic High band played.
It was quite chaotic, but boy did we have fun!
We then returned to our classroom to have personal king cakes (aka donuts).
Yummo

Our next celebration was one filled with LOVE.
Each student made an adorable Valentine box, and brought a Valentine card and/or candy for each of their friends in the class.
The kids had a blast passing out their treats.

Once all of the Valentines were passed out we got to look through, and enjoy some of our treats.

Although we did have a lot of fun last week, we also had some very important learning to do.
We have begun a long unit on living things, and this week we learned that ALL living things grow/change, move, eat, and reproduce.  We discussed the different characteristics of living things in detail, so we ended with a sorting activity.  We had to look through different magazine clippings and decide which pictures were of living things, and which were of nonliving things.

Finally, a big shout out to our adorable Star of the Week...
Sullivan!

Thank you SO much for the delicious Sugar cookies.

Friends and Family

Also this week our resident Tooth Fairy, Mrs. Korte, pulled Cam's tooth!
He didn't even notice.

Sweet Elena turned 5, and shared some delicious cupcakes.
Miss Olive was a shining Star of the Week!

Thank you for the yummy Oreos!
