My Special Letter

This week we continued talking about something special...our special letter!
We all have a special letter that starts our names, and this week we did many fun activities with it.

We had to find our special letter, and complete our name.

I'm so impressed with how well the class writes their names already!!
We also got to learn to use watercolors by painting our special letter.
Just wait and see how these turn out!

What Makes Us Special

This is such a special group of Stars, so last week was all about letting them know it.
Each day they learned a way that they are unique and special.

Our names make us special because they are all different, and are different lengths.
Some of us have long names with many letters, and some have very short names with few letters.
We charted our names to see who had long and short names.

We learned that Cam has the shortest name with only 3 letters and Sullivan has the longest name with 8 letters!
We also talked about our appearance and how it makes us special.
Our eyes are all different.  They are different shapes, sizes and colors.
We charted the color of our eyes...

and found that our whole class has blue and brown eyes.
There is only one more person with blue eyes than brown, and can you believe no one has green!?
We also looked at our hair color and length to discover that it is all different.
Of course we graphed that too, to find that we have lot's of brown hair in PreK A!
Once we finished talking about our appearance we discussed how being a boy or girl is special.  We then made ourselves with the correct hair and eyes, then counted to see how many boys and how many girls we have in our class.
We have 10 girls and 7 boys!
Did you know that we can all do things and have talents that make us special too!?

Finally, we learned that, although we all have hands, everyone's are unique.
We measured them using our cubes.

We Love Centers!

The first thing all PreK students ask when entering the classroom for the first time is,
"when do we get to play with the toys!?".
Well, midweek this first week the wait was FINALLY over.
Wednesday the class was split in half, and showed how to correctly play and clean up at each learning center.  They were also taught how to correctly rotate from one to another when it is time.
Once everyone had been shown the ropes, it was time to try it out.
They did a great job!!

Miss Hollace reading Llama Llama at Reading Center
Olive and Isabella at Writing Center
Sullivan and Bella had a great time creating masterpieces at Art Center.
Reece got to play in Puzzle Center.
James enjoyed sorting the dinosaurs at Math Center.
Edie Rose loved lounging with Pete the Cat at Reading Center.
Anna and Turner had a feast at Housekeeping Center.
Looks like Joey and Kate were having a blast exploring at Science Center.
Jake built quite the structure at Blocks Center.
Cam and Lila got to have a great story read to them at Listening Center.

Centers are something that the students will be going to every day to help them learn new skills while having fun.  It also helps to promote Social and Emotional skills by learning to get along and share with classmates.
