The Perfect Pair

Today we learned all about pairs. We learned that a pair is two of anything that is the same, and that not everything has to come in a pair but some things do. Each student either brought a pair to share with the class or was sent hunting for one in the classroom.

Everyone got to present their pair and were promoted to use as many descriptive words as they could.
Corinne started us off with a pair of pink stripe mittens.

Grayson shared a pair of silver sheriff badges.

Jack brought a pair of yellow toy corn.

Addison had a pair of pink heart socks.

Brynley brought a few pairs, but here is her pair of pink princess ponies.

Trip had a pair of green pencils.

Miss Sofia showed us a pair of pretty purple flowers.

Olivia had a pair of big red hair bows.

George shared a pair of "lovies". (That is one smart mommy to have multiple lovies!)

Matthew showed us his cool red baseball cleats!

My ninja turtle lovin Blake shared a pair of way cool TMNT socks.

Amelia had a pair of striped gloves.

Here's another Ninja Turtle, Mr. Bryson, who brought a cool pair of Ninja swords!

Rece helped us learn something new with his pair of adorable cowboy chaps, and that is that even though there aren't two chaps...the one pair has a pair of legs!

Then I sent Alex on a hunt for a pair of counting bears.

Stella had to search for a pair of purple markers.

Austin found us a pair of "light blue" chairs.

Finally, Maddie showed us a pair of lunch boxes!

To finish up our pair lesson, we got to play the fun pair making classic, memory!!

Here are some proud matchmakers!!

Down Under

We have begun our 4 week unit on habitats. Last week we learned about land animals, the different places they could live on land, and what they needed to survive in their environment. This week we learned about the world underneath our feet. What exactly is going on down there?!

We started by talking about all of the animals that live or sleep underground. Everyone then colored a different underground animal to place in our class underground tunnel.

Then today we talked about all of the yummy foods that we eat that grow underground.
We started by reviewing plant parts, and we learned that we can actually eat every part.  We eat flowers, leaves, stems, and even roots! To explore this concept we each got a different veggie to investigate.

What part of the plant is it, and is it on the top or bottom of the plant?

After we discussed everyone's vegetable, we had a little test waiting at the table for us.  Each table had a plate with two vegetables on it, one "top" and one "bottom", and a piece of paper labeled top and bottom.  We then had to decide which veggie was which and stamp it in the appropriate box.

Finally, it was time to finish up our underground habitat by creating a "bottoms" garden.

Now on to the next habitat...The Sky!
