What to Wear

As we continue with our unit on the weather, today we got to discuss what we should wear in the different elements. In our morning circle time we dressed our weather friend for every type of weather, and discussed why these were the appropriate clothing choices.
Then this afternoon we did an experiment to help us understand why some coats work to keep us warm, and some protect us from the rain.

We decided to use a folded paper towel as an example of how a winter coat works, and a glove to show how a raincoat works. we then asked...
Which hand stays warm when you hold a piece of ice? The hand with a paper towel or the hand with the latex glove?
(They are all holding ice it's just a bit hard to tell)

Yes...the hand with the paper towel makes it harder to feel the ice.

I then poured water on each hand and asked...
Which hand stayed dry?

We all agreed that the rubber glove, just like a raincoat, worked best to keep us dry! In contrast, we learned the term absorb, and that that's what will happen to our winter coats or clothing if we wear them in the rain.

Hats work to keep us warm too!!!

Thank you to our Star Riley for her "Red Riley Snacks"! Red boxes of raisins, red punch, and red Rice Krispie treats...how creative is that?!

Finally I'm so so happy to post that the ENTIRE class got purple superstar status today! Every one of my wonderful kiddos did the exact right thing on their morning worksheet, AND they are all becoming such pros at writing their names correctly! I'm a proud teacher:)

First Snow Day

This is actually Friday's post:

We have learned about all types of weather this week, so finally we made it to Snow! We discussed where snow comes from, and what kind of weather it must be for it to snow. Then we got to play in the stuff!

It started as very structured play

Then we got crazy!

So fun! I hope we have many real snow days ahead.

And this is on last cute pic of our Star Owain

Thankful Thursday

Today we had our second Thankful Thursday, and wrote some great thank you notes. This time we wrote our notes to our 4th Grade reading buddies. We love it when they come, hang out on our cots, read us great books, and sometimes make us sweet cards, so we wanted to let them know how much we appreciate them.

Our works in progress:

Because you won't get to see these great cards in person, I took pics of everyone with their amazing thank you notes!

I'm sorry that some are hard to read...only a few had time to trace their pencil writing in marker.

I must say that I am really amazed with how well this class did with their writing! They looked at the message I wrote on the board and copied it so well, and that's impressive for this age. I love these kids so much, and I love challenging them even more:)

Fall

Happy Fall Y'all!

It's finally beginning to look and feel a lot like Fall out, and Thanksgiving is JUST around the corner! SO, it's time to bring the beautiful outside in.

We began by making some really cool fall leaves using shaving cream and fall colored paint.

Time for the leaves!

Now we make a mess and scrape off the top!

You'll have to stop by the room sometime to see the cool finished products!

Also today we had a wonderful O snack from our Star Owain...oranges, oatmeal cookies, and orange juice mmmmm!

And I caught Mr. Tripp persnally thanking Owain for his yummy snack, so he got to be a purple Superstar today!

Then last, but certainly not least...Julia lost her first tooth last night!!!

Julia is the second classmate to loose a tooth, and in the exact same spot!
